How to Display Adsense Ads on your Blogxi Blog

First you have to have an Adsense account. If you don’t have then go to www.google.com/adsense and apply but I advise you to wait a little bit longer because a “young” blog/website can be a ground for Google to deny your application and we know that blogs here in Blogxi are not more than three months old.

But if your application is already accepted, then you should find something like this in your Google Adsense’s “My Accounts” tab :  pub-1234567890123456. This is your Publisher’s ID and you need this in order to be able to display Google adverts.

Before anything else, I advise you to read Google Adsense Policies and Guidelines before you start displaying their adverts to know important rules such as “you are not supposed to click on your own adverts” and “you can only display a certain number of adverts on your blog”.

So, given that you have and that you find the code and that you understand Google’s rule, you can proceed. Log in to your Adsense account and copy your Publisher’s ID then log in to your Blogxi account and do the following steps like how it is shown in the photo.

1. Go to “Design”.
2. Go to “Widget”.
3. You should see the Google Adsense widget. Click on “Add”.
4. The Google Adsense Widget will automatically transfer to the right side. Click on “Edit”.
5. Enter your Publisher’s ID. The other boxes there are the setting of your add such as colors and size. You may edit them as you like.
6. Click on “Change”.
7. Click on “Save Changes”.

Adsense is not a big money maker so don’t expect to get rich from it. Be patient and just concentrate in making good posts and attracting readers. Cheers and good luck!

How to Put a Chat Box on Your Blog

Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to put a chat box on your blog’s sidebar. I made screenshots to easily show you how it is done.

There are two major things you need to do, first is to get the Chat Box’s code and second is to paste the code on your blog.

A. To Get The Chat Box’s code:

1. Create an account at www.CBox.ws. Fill up all the necessary blanks and don’t forget to choose the Style of your chat box.
2. After you set up your account in CBox.ws, log in to your account and go to “Publish”.
3. You’ll the see a code. Copy this code and make sure you copy the COMPLETE code.

A. Paste the code on your blog:

Now, let’s go to your Blogxi account. Log in to your account and follow the steps.
1. Go to “Design”.
2. Go to “Widgets”.
3. Chose which sidebar you want to put your Chat Box. Some themes have two sidebars like this one. After choosing which sidebar, click on “Show”.
4. Then “Add” a Text Widget. If you click on “Add”, the widget will automatically go to the right side. (See picture).
5. Click on “Edit”.
6. Give your Chat box a title. “Chat Box”, “Message Me”, and “Shout Box” are some examples.
7. Paste the code you copied from your CBOX account here.
8. Click on “Change”.
9. Click on “Save”.

View you blog and you should see a properly working Chat Box there.

Enjoy!

What’s Next?

Now that you have successfully set up a blog and post interesting entries, what’s next?

The next step would be the very obvious one: Get people to read the entries in your blog.

How?

The wisest way to get readers is to be a reader yourself. Go and visit other people’s blogs. Read and comment in them then leave your mark; that would be your name and the URL (link) of your blog. If you left friendly or interesting comments, people might want to check what you have to say in your blog too.

The blogging world is majorly sustained by its bloggers. Bloggers not only write but we also read and comment on each other’s blogs. That’s how it works so if you are new, try to make friends. You’ll see, it won’t take long before your sidebar is filled with links to all your blogger friends’ blog.

Go ahead. Blog! But don’t forget to have fun and make some friends while doing it.

Hello guys,

I have added 11 new themes to Blogxi’s over 100 theme collection. I have noticed that the earlier themes are so…well… bachelor-y or manly so I added some more theme for the ladies but men are also welcome to use them. (*wink)

Emails are Not Sending Out

The emails containing activation keys are now delivered in less than 5 minutes!

I got a comment awhile ago in one of my post about Blogxi.com. The commenter said that she signed up 11 hours ago but she’s still waiting for the activation key to be emailed to her. Meaning, she has not received the email containing the activation key yet! This prompt me to investigate and work on the issue.

I am really sorry to those who signed up earlier and didn’t get their activation emails. I spent number of hours today to solve the problem–why are the emails too slow and sometimes, they don’t arrive. Right now,  I am fortunately able to make sure that emails are delivered and that their delivery is faster. I tested it several times and I am getting the email containing the activation key in about less than 5 minutes.

It’s working! Email deliveries are faster BUT the problem is they go directly to the SPAM folder so for those of you who signed up, kindly check your SPAM folder. Your blogxi.com activation key is surely there.

So Email delivery faster : DONE

SPAM : working on it and hoping to finish it asap.

Again, please understand that Blogxi.com is still a work in progress. :) Cheers!

Blogxi Development Log

For this post, I’ll share about the development of Blogxi.

It started here:
FOREVER: wishing to start my own blogging community.

August 30 : finally decided to start working on WPMU.
: purchased a separate web hosting account because I want my WPMU on a dedicated web hosting account. (You see, I have like 3 websites sharing one hosting account).
: downloaded WPMU.
: got my new web hosting account’s welcome email and my log-in details.
: Uploaded WPMU using Filezilla.

September 1: Asked my web host to edit my httpd.conf file for me. Result: not possible because I am on a shared httpd.conf file. I am sharing this file with other clients.
: Can’t get WPMU to work.

September 3 : Due to difficulties with my web host, it seems that installing WPMU is impossible. Reasons are : DNS wildcards is not allowed and httpd.conf file is shared.
: Gave up on the idea that I can ever run my own blogging community on this web host account.
: Applied for a refund from my web host.

September 4 : Very disappointed that I was not able to set up my blogging community but still wishing and hoping that someday, I’ll be able to run a simple blogging community for my friends.

September 5 : out of boredom, I gave it a long hard thought again and afterwards I decided to pursue the blogging community project.

September 6 : Bought a new web hosting account at webhostingbuzz.com. This time I got a reseller account to have better control.
: Got my welcome email and log in details from webhostingbuzz.com.
: Started directly working on WPMU.
: Uploaded the platform.
: Wrote a ticket to webhostingbuzz.com to request the following: mod_rewrite: enable, wild cards: enable, httpd.conf: edit.

September 7: Got a reply to my tickets and all requests are done. No pain.
: Installed the platform.
: Started to look for WPMU landing page but was unable to find one.
: Thinking whether to design my own landing page or just look for a simple ready made WP theme and tweak it then I’ll just use static page for the landing page.
: Found a WP theme to tweak but I am still completely hesitant to exert so much pressure without making sure that the installation will work.
: Installed the platform and it seems to be working fine but there’s one problem—the email containing activation keys are not sending out! I wrote a ticket to my web host immediately about this problem.
: Thinking that WPMU org forums are not so friendly. I dared not ask a question there.

September 8: I got a reply to my email about why WP MU activation emails are not sending out. But it’s not the solution yet. My server admin is just asking for my log in details so they can look into it.
: 18:24 Got home from school. Checked my inbox but no emails yet.
: Got the books from Amazon about Drupal and about Wodpress Theme Design.

September 9 : Got the much awaited answer from my server admin. They explained why my activation emails are not sending out. It’s the server’s way to combat spam mails so there are something’s I need to change.
: Decided to start from scratch and I will see to it that WPMU installation steps are followed as well as the advice from my server admin.
: 9:03 Reinstalling WPMU.
: 9:47 Looks like it’s working.
: Now I wonder how long I can design a landing page…? My HTML and my CSS knowledge are too narrow and too obsolete. I wish there’s somewhere in the net where I can download a free ready made landing page for WPMU.

September 10: Didn’t work on WPMU today. Was just reading some things that will help me to create my theme with a fancy landing page.

September 11: Choosing a theme to tweak for Blogxi’s landing page cause I don’t think I am able to create a theme from a scratch.
: 11:23 Finally decided on a theme—it’s by Brian Gardner.
: 14:03 German Class forgotten…. Oppps! Still tweaking the theme.
: 16:05 Theme is looking OK now. Polishing will come later.
: 16:30 Found a very good sidebar login plugin.
: 18:40 Experimenting with a lot of plugins.
: 23:40 Formulating a simple Blogxi.com’s TOS.
: 00:47 Done with the TOS and a simple welcome page.

Now Blogxi.com has a simple welcome page, TOS, and privacy policy. It’s not 100% done yet but it is ready for sign ups but it does not stop here. I will still work on it to make it better and further developments will be announced later.

Hello everyone,

I am your host and I am welcoming you all to Blogxi.com.

Blogxi.com is a FREE blogging community I finally set up a few days ago. It was initially intended for my friends who would like to have their own blogs but since Blogxi.com can hold several users, I am opening it to the public so whoever you are and wherever you are from, you are free to join.

But there are some things you should understand and the first is; Blogxi is very new so although it is working, I am still in the process of trying and experimenting with a lot of stuff to make Blogxi better so please bear with me. Secondly, you have to wait patiently for the email with the activation key because it takes up to 30 minutes to arrive. I am working on this problem now so again, please bear with me. :)

I’ll keep this short so you can go straight ahead to the sign up page.

Enjoy!

Finally!

I made it work!

I made it work but not without the help of a lot of people and i really like to thank them but I won’t do that here cause I believe that that should be done in one special post.

For now, this is just to say that Blogxi.com is finally working. :)
